Upgrades-Worthwhile or a Waste?

E-mail Print PDF

I love vacations!  So I can understand when a customer tells me "I'd rather spend the money on a cruise than upgrade my roofing!"  However, your home is an important investment, and an upgrade can be invaluable addition worth considering.

When it's time to replace your roof, you want to pick your contractor very carefully then talk about upgrade options.  There are numerous products out there, and not all of them will look right on your style of house.   A good contractor  will take into consideration the style and price range of your home when offering you a choice for an upgrade.   If you have been through the process of building or remodeling a home you may remember all the exterior choices you had to make: brick or stucco, wood or vinyl, types of windows, doors, landscaping.  Many homeowners spend thousands of dollars landscaping then settle for a contractor grade shingle that is as bland as a yard without trees!  Isn't the roof something everyone can see?  There are several reasons aside from aesthetics as well that may make an upgrade worth the extra expense.  Some shingles have better wind warranties which make sense if you are in an area that gets a lot of straight line winds.  Other shingles have an aggressive seal down strip making them the right choice if your roof is over a 12/12 pitch.  These are just a few examples of why it would be well worth your time to discuss an upgrade with your contractor.  Plus, if you're planning on selling your home, don't be too quick to dismiss an upgrade... (more about this point in my next blog)

So as appealing as that cruise may be, don't tell yourself "it's just a roof" then later regret it when the neighbors replace their roof and you can't stop looking at what Cox Roofing did for them!

Our history

E-mail Print PDF

Welcome to Cox Roofing's web site!  My name is Ken Mills and I'm the president of Cox Roofing.  I have many years of field experience, from labor to sales to management, in residential as well as commercial roofing.  I'm beginning a bi-weekly blog about our company as well as to answer questions you might have about roofing in general.  You can use the contact page to submit questions and I will answer them directly and some I will even use in this blog....

Cox Roofing has been in business since 1979 when my father in law, Ron Cox, left his job at GAF as an outside sales rep selling shingles to local lumber yards and contractors.  He had years of roofing experience as well as sales and bidding experience from working at Ajax Supply.  Adding this with his new knowledge from GAF he saw a need in the Ozarks for a reputable roofing company.  At first it was him, his wife Janine Cox, and his brother Phil Cox (our current commercial roof superintendent).  The business grew quickly and in a few years they had an office and warehouse built.

Ron has since retired from full time work but has never stopped helping in the day to day operations.  Janine still works part time.  In addition to the three Cox's who started it all, we have other family members that work for us; my wife, co-owner Lisa (Cox) Mills; my brother in law, salesman Chris Cox; and Phil's daughter, our office manager, Rebecca. We also have several employees who have been with us many years, including salesman Tom Wade and superintendent Chuck Hinkley who have been with Cox 10+ years and are like family.  Although we have moved a few different places over the past 31 years, we still boast the same phone number since day one; 887-3874!  And the funny thing is that all these years later we ended up moving right back on Scenic, two doors down from the original office!
